With a market volume exceeding 120 billion euros annually, the potential for industrialized construction in Germany is significantly higher than current levels. According to an analysis by Porsche Consulting and construction software provider Autodesk, value chains in the German construction sector would need to undergo a radical transformation to unlock this potential.
“The question of what the customer needs and what complete solution is available for that must come at the beginning of every project,” says Roland Sitzberger, Partner at Porsche Consulting. In practice, however, construction processes often unfold in isolated steps – separated by planning, building, and individual trades.
The study notes that major providers offering complete serial solutions could take on a pioneering role, if they marketed their offerings more proactively. It also emphasizes the importance of impulses from the housing sector, such as framework agreements to increase the share of serial construction. “The solutions exist; they just need to be implemented,” says Sitzberger.
